I read the New Haven Independent daily, best source of news for the city proper. And free, web only.

Same! I subscribe to their newsletter, which is a great way to get a highlight of the recent articles.

Micropayments to what? I’m not sure what you’re looking for. 100% of your money goes to the companies you choose to give it to. That doesn’t sound broken to me…

That being said, it sounds like maybe you’re looking for Apple News+? That’s basically what it sounds like you’re describing.

i subscribe to the NYT and hearst ct media (ct post and new haven register) online and get the new yorker delivered, which obviously isn't a newspaper but feels relevant because it's the only physical periodical i receive in the mail.

the best local source of news does not require a subscription. it's the new haven independent. i read basically everything they publish.
