Flight radar 24 and a little googling said it does track/power line inspections and photography for Amtrak. I saw it from the office today too so I was curious why it was just floating around.

lol Fair Haven is part of New Haven, just a neighborhood between the Mill River and the Quinnipiac River that was cut off by I-91. The tracks run in the northwest part of the area near the highway.

That aircraft is inspecting for potential power line problems all the way to Boston for metro north. After the days flights the photos are analyzed and any areas of concern are reported and repair crews are dispatched before any disruption to service is encountered.

There's a helicopter above the train tracks in Fair Haven. It's been there for a while.
