I’m getting married downtown new haven next year, we booked the venue very far in advance (thanks covid) and I asked a million times if the weekend would have any other conflicts, they reassured me but I just found out that yale family weekend is of course our wedding weekend and I’m absolutely panicking

please tell me it won’t be that bad

i am so sorry to report this, but as a longtime new haven resident i gotta tell you, it... it might be kind of bad. does the venue have its own parking facility? is there no way you can reschedule this far out?

there’s no option to reschedule, all my other vendors are booked and since covid wedding related things have been booking up at least a year in advance

thankfully, the venue has parking included

the parking is the big thing here, i'm pretty sure, so that's a big relief. it might get a little inconvenient here & there but if you've already got your vendors & venue booked & that venue has a place for people to park their cars, you've circumvented the worst challenges this might present. no massive disaster.

just don't count on finding many hotel rooms available in the area & stress to any guests that might need them that they absolutely should book theirs, like, NOW.

I worked in the NH hotel industry for 5-6 years. You have to start calling hotels immediately in NH and see if you can get room blocks and if that doesn’t work you might have to look in West Haven, Milford, Orange, east haven, Branford. I wish you all the best hopefully my suggestions help

Secure hotel room blocks asap! And maybe a rehearsal dinner venue. But otherwise if your venue has parking, I think you’ll be fine 😊

I hate to laugh, but it’s a freakin NIGHTMARE!!! How can they not tell you about this? This is worse than Yale and Q graduation day!

You’ll be fine you have the venue. Work with a hotel for block of rooms in advance . If doing a restaurant time, pick one and make early plans. One bonus is I think there are extra “seats” compared to pre Covid, more hotel rooms; Hotel Marcel and Cambria Hotel are new, and seems to be more restaurants…

thank you all for your help and encouragement!

so far, all the downtown hotels refuse to provide blocks for that weekend and the ones that do are charging insane rates and/or demanding 2-3 night stays

we’ve reached out to hotels in orange for blocks so that’s been a saving grace and now we’re crossing our fingers for a rehearsal dinner reservation

Definitely get the hotels booked ASAP. I think that might be the biggest challenge. There’s just not a lot of lodging here. You could always rent some sort of transportation if people have to book out of town.

Avoid the hotels right off Rt 15 in Amity.

Used to work in New Haven hotels - it won’t be too bad if your venue has parking, that’s by far the biggest hurdle! I’d look at some of the hotels in Milford/Orange/Branford for blocks - otherwise you’re gonna see some insane rates in New Haven proper. Let your vendors and guests know to plan for some other traffic, and book your rehearsal dinner venue soon! Let me know if you have any other questions & need help navigating. Congratulations!!

Hotel and parking are your main concerns. Get those squared away and you should be ok. Restaurant reservations if your event needs them.
