As a young boy my grandfather brought me to this store often as it was in walking distance of my grandparents home and he always needed a single screw or a new can of WD-40. This store was a wonderland of every tool and trinket imaginable. I would watch them make copies of keys in amazement or watch the on duty cobbler repair the sole of a boot. Seeing this store compete with the big names and survive as long as they have is incredible. My grandfather past away earlier this year and Spring Glen Hardware just announced they will be closing for good at the end of this year. Kismet

My dad's best friend is the owner. He and his brother are retiring! A true staple in the area for years and will be missed!

I’d love to talk to them about what they’re doing with the space. Sad it’ll be gone but I’d love to put a brewpub there.

Not sure myself but you may be able to inquire within! Beer talk will go over well I'm sure lol

I'd say that's the last thing we need in that space. It's already flanked by two restaurant/bars. The neighborhood would never support that. In any case, the space is too small.

Ehhh, those places are so overpriced...and run by the same exact company. I would love to see a different option in there, but hey, that's just me perhaps.

man when i walked by & saw that GOING OUT OF BUSINESS sign my heart just totally dropped. devastating!! i know there was some weird rumbling on twitter for a minute regarding some folks who were considering buying it & running it as a collective, anyone have any word about that?

also, tangentially related, any movement on that place "CanTean" next door? it seems like they installed the sign and then nothing ever happened. what is with that spot?

I've been peaking inside for months. There has not been much progress. ¯\(ツ)

They say it's coming soon. Took much longer to build than expected.

Yeah, I was surprised when I heard the news. Makes me want to quit my job and buy a hardware store

You could turn it into a diner, like on Gilmore Girls.

They sure are! Yes all is good with them, they've just decided to retire. They've worked hard all these years, now it's time for them to enjoy their next chapter. If you're lucky, you may catch one of them at a Quinnipiac hockey game!

Oh no! Man. Good for them, retiring, but I'm going to miss it a lot. I wish someone would take up the mantle and keep it going in the same spirit.

Technically, it's for sale so there's still a chance someone will carry on as a hardware store.
