I dunno if agree with it not being bikable. Pre Covid there were plenty of bike commmuters heading downtown from east rock. I used to commute on an electrical skateboard.
Maybe a little harder to get downtown from somewhere like westville but even then I had coworkers bike to the office from there

If biking from Westville, you can take newly installed bike lane along Edgewood Ave it gets you nearly all the way to down town.

It’s definitely doable but you’ll be next to parked or moving cars most of the way. As someone who watches Not Just Bikes, there is much to be desired.

Plenty to be desired, but it's come a long way in the last decade or so. There are racks on all the buses (probably the biggest game-changer), bike lanes, sharrows, public racks, etc. Including bicycle lanes and other considerations is now written into the city code. We would all love separated lanes, but those will take time. We have always been in the streets next to parked and moving cars. At least there is some warning to drivers now and a slowly growing notion that bikes should be in the street.
