My wife just got a job as an international purser for an airline and will be working out of JFK International Airport. She doesn’t drive, so I was looking for a transit option but the train takes over 3 hours. Driving is much faster. Is there a regular shuttle she can take and just buy a monthly pass to get back and forth? Please let me know your thoughts fellow New Haven neighbors!

What are her hours? If she has to go through rush hour at all it can easily take even longer than the train

Honestly you should just move closer to JFK.

You can either go metro north > subways or amtrak > long Island railroad. Both are close to 3hrs. Metro north is likely cheaper but requires two different subways which can be a wildcard. Amtrak will cost more but is more direct. Unfortunately there aren't many good options unless they can drive during off hours

Contact this shuttle service and see what they can do. I think they were out of business during the pandemic, they might be more regular now. https://ctlimo.com/airport-shuttle-service

Maybe you can find another shuttle service?

Other than that my friend your options are limited. Consider having her rent a room near jfk where she could stay a few nights a week?

Unless her company will pay for a limousine to and from, or she starts driving - it’s metro north to grand central. She can get a shuttle bias to jfk or she would have to take the subway to the air train. She could take the 6 to the e or f and catch the air train in queens, or just walk 8 blocks directly to the e or f to catch the air train.

It’s not going to be easy. Good luck.

Edit: Someone please find Aladdin’s magic lamp and wish for the air train to be extended over the white stone bridge to stamford!

Go Shuttle CT has regular shared shuttles for $65, that's the only shuttle I know of

Oof, is this for a daily commute? I'd seriously consider moving. Train can get pricey and it's not a great connection to JFK. As mentioned, Grand Central Madison will make the connection to the LIRR much faster.

There are a few shuttle companies around that others mentioned. Traffic can be terrible depending on the time of day.

i'm probably gonna get downvoted, but man, please try to take public transportation, it's more easily available here than in much of the rest of the country & it's a hell of a lot more sustainable.

Maybe she can find a carpool? Other employees might know of that?

Two shuttles: GOAirport shuttle and RedDot are both daily van shuttles from NH to JFK. You can also take GO shuttle from grand central to JFK hourly.

That said. Overall interconnecting public transport between rail bus and plane around here is so sucky compared to Europe, for ex.

You can’t even take a shuttle plane from Tweed NH airport to the NY airports.

And Bradley Field in CT - what a joke, the train goes by it, not to it, so you have to catch a bus from Hartford train station.

Anyway, at least for JFk there are two shuttle companies from New Haven, proper that will take you all the way. It’s a miracle

To much old infrastructure. We are way overdue for upgrades and better interconnection

For a daily commute? Absolutely none of this is cheap enough for that.

The shuttle bus from grand central probably isn’t cheap enough for daily expense.

Anything train to shuttle bus or train to subway (cheapest) us going to be three hours each way - that’s six hours a day.

Rent a room in Ny for week nights? Come home on weekends?
