Unsolicited nostalgia: the abundance of pickup soccer games in New Haven was a top 5 favorite thing about living there once upon a when. We were playing 6 days a week when this was cranking the most. Then, the games were primarily on Yale's property off 34 and next to the field hockey stadium.
Even in the heart of the winter, on Saturdays and Sundays people would show for the normal 10a game with shovels. We would routinely make a heinous drive across town, shovel a small field, and play ~ 3 v 3.
I don't play, so take this with a grain of salt, but I see groups playing on east rock park's rice field, usually on afternoons and weekends. You might need to scope it out yourself to see what the deal is, though.
ngl, id kill for this, i know cfc arena has 10 dollar pick ups on wed nights but its full usually and kids are tryhard as hell.I just wanna chill and get some nice park games in. Haven't been able to play much at all since I moved here.
i'm looking to setup regular outdoor games at Rice Field in east rock park in the spring as early as consistent weather permits
looking to setup small sided games up to 11v11 and depending on how many people show multiple games based on what you want to play, competitive or casual.
I'm putting together a whatsapp group to organize details later on and will be advertising fliers around East Rock.
DM if you want to be added to the list for the Spring, we have many people in the downtown and greater New Haven area with interest
