Hi everyone, I’m Riccardo (28M), I’m gonna stay in New Haven for a couple weeks at the beginning of March, since is my first time in the city (and in the area), I’d like to know a few things.

  • What’s the weather like in late February/March?

  • Is it possible to cruise the city just by walking? I’m staying in Dwight and I’m used to walk a lot, can I manage to?

  • Also, is safe walking at night?

Finally, I’d really like to meet local people of my age (more or less), anyone who might be interested in a future contact in Italy, don't hesitate to write!

Thank you, Take care!

The weather in late February/March is typically cold. We’ve had an unusually warm winter this year, but I would expect it to be near freezing for the most part. There might also be some days that are warmer, but it’s hard to say. I’d assume you’ll need a winter jacket and warm pants for the most part, but there could be a day that’s literally warm enough for shorts and a t-shirt—that’s just how weather is around here.

I’m terms of walking, it’s generally pretty safe. I wouldn’t necessarily plan to go on long neighborhood strolls at 2 am, but I wouldn’t feel unsafe walking home at 10 pm.

New Haven is a city, so there is always the possibility that some bad actor will give you trouble, but it’s usually pretty safe and quiet.

Where you will be is a good walking area. If you’re coming for some yale thing, more than likely, you’ll have no trouble walking to it.

Do me a favor and try a few pizza places (Frank pepe, Sally’s, modern) and tell us what you think. There are many who think that New Haven has some of the best pizza in the states (maybe the world). I know I’d be interested to hear what an Italian has to say about it!

I would be happy to be a tour guide. I am around the first and second weeks in March, but away the third week. I own a restaurant, Next Door, which is on the other side of town from Dwight Street, but you would be welcome any time. I'm not in your age bracket, but I have lived in New Haven for 50 years and know it well. I also have a car and can take you around.

Get to skappo if you get a chance. Good food, good wine, run by a wonderful Italian family. Mama is from Italy and would love to meet you, I'm sure (of course, she loves meeting everyone).
