Every day I go to the Starbucks by work for a hot chocolate, but that’s only because in Chicago (where I fairly recently moved from), I never found a small business that made cocoa that tasted anything more than hot milk w/ Hershey syrup. Are there any coffee shops, bakeries, etc, that have some slammin’ hot cocoa that is better than the corporate sludge I currently pump?

(I don't really drink hot cocoa but...) There are so many coffee shops downtown that you could make a fun hobby of visiting them and trying their cocoa and let us know.

Willoughby's is a block from Starbucks and I'm guessing their cocoa is delightful for instance.

G Cafe is two blocks

Pistachio is 4 blocks.

Can confirm that Willoughby's has good hot chocolate in both of their locations. If you like a little kick, I definitely recommend their Mexican hot chocolate when it's available, they make it really well!

Atticus cafe and market (two locations) makes extraordinary hot chocolate. Some of the best I’ve ever had.

I haven’t had it recently, but I had a pretty great hot cocoa from Gather on State St. last winter. Not sure if it was crazy satisfying because it was cold or because it was just that good.

Either way, I’d recommend stopping by! It’s probably not near your work but it’s very cozy and worth a visit.

Nope. I searched high and low for a good cup when I arrived. The best fix I’ve found is buying hot chocolate from hotel chocolat and making my own. You don’t truly need the velvetiser.

Book Trader Cafe is a block or two from Starbucks and their mochacchino is awesome so they probably make a mean hot chocolate

Order the powder from L.A. Burdick Chocolates in Boston and make it at home! Could never go back to any other hot chocolate after having theirs.

Mix the sugar and cocoa together. Add a tablespoon of milk and mix until it becomes a paste. Add hot water and stir until dissolved. Add milk to taste.
