I was just casually walking through Monmouth Battlefield State Park and I heard what sounded like screaming, moving very rapidly through the woods back and forth. At first I thought it was some strange bird mating call but it was moving too fast. I then figured it could be motorcycles in the distance but it sounded way too high pitched and was too frequent. It kept traveling back and forth through large distances in the woods, and the sound itself was layering, almost as if there were multiple sources, or communication back and forth. I thought that there must be someone else who heard it too and so I approached the security officer at the park and he was hearing it as well! He thought it might be drones. It seems likely to me but we couldn’t actually see anything. Anyway, I figured I would share this strange story because maybe someone else heard it and can confirm what it was.

Sounds almost like it could be someone flying a drone or RC plane somewhere near the park. There’s a tiny airstrip right nearby that is used by that kind of aerial hobby

It’s likely, since that’s the side of the park that I heard it on, as well as the direction where I first heard the sound. But I also heard it travel as south as around the Village Grande neighborhood.

Its probably foxes in the woods and that is what their distress call is or when they are trying to get back with their babies/parents or realize danger is by. My house backs up to the woods in Neptune and when I first moved in for a couple weeks at night every now and then I would hear what sounded like a little girl screaming in the woods. Literally sounded like someone was getting beat/whipped in the woods and screaming. Once my neighbor said it was foxes, i thought noway, but evidently so it was.

Here's a video, was it similar to any of these sounds? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6NuhlibHsM
