I’m in Middlesex country (but willing to make a drive within reason), and I’m looking for a coffee shop or something similar with decent space and wouldn’t mind a small group spending 3-4 hours there playing board games. A coffee shop that also has board games is also great! There were plenty of places like this in NYC when I lived there, but NJ culture seems a lot more “get in, get out.” 😂 Thank you in advance!

Probably any shop.

I mean my friends and I used to set up shop at Taco Bell and have full on tournaments.

Check out IRL Games in Hightstown. There is also a coffee shop a few doors down named Little Key. Old Hights Brewery also has space, I've played cards there for a few hours. The Brewery has seating upstairs too so you may have a bunch of room.

Have fun!

Boonton coffee is great for this and Highlander Games is right up the street

Black River Roasters in Whitehouse. Their upstairs space would work. I'm assuming everyone will be buying coffee from them.... right?

There's a place called Illustrious Card & Games in Fords that might provide what you're looking for.

There's a group that meets every Thursday night at Maloney's in Matawan. I haven't been able to go since my work schedule changed, but i can send you the discord or link this thread to the people that still attend if you want.

Drop by the Marlboro Whole Foods. There's a huge sit-n-eat area where people gather for all sorts of things (i know there's a Bridge Club and a Mahjong group that hang out for hours.

Unlike cafes or pubs, nobody cares whether you buy anything or sit there for 10 hrs. It's got clean bathrooms, free wifi, close parking, and hey, if you're hungry or thirsty, everything within reach.

If i were into board games, i'd totally hit this place (fyi, i work there p/t and see these people on a reg basis)

And i know lots of people recommended Bell Works but that place is SUPER noisy and has a lot of loud children (husband works there so we're well aware of the place. Food/drink options are subpar as well)
