I am a 25f who is from union county originally. I have been living in Pittsburgh and Mexico for the last few years and want to come back home for a little. I want to pay no more then 1,750, hopefully have 700 sq ft and it be nice to have like a balcony or terrace. I would like to be in a place where there is maybe a 40 minute access of train to the city. Any recommendations on areas to look into and is this possible? Thanks all!

Edit: currently I’m looking at the Union city area but would love to know if there are any other recommendations or areas!

Edit edit: thank you all!! I feel very silly having these expectations now haha, I appreciate it! I know Jersey is more experience but I also know for me it’s worth it so now I just adjust my price tag. Can anyone give me details of what they think ^^ these wants could cost? Maybe like a range?

1750? You might want to check out Pittsburgh or Mexico.

This made me laugh out loud, I feel kinda bad. You can try Phillipsburg but you know what it is like there

Places like that exist but there is a lot of demand so you need to act fast if you find a place

Look on the NJCL, specifically Avenel and Woodbridge. I had a house across from the new apartments at the Avenel train station and they started at 1700-1800 and the train to NYC is 40 mins

No balconies in basement apartments. $1700 with a view higher than a windshield you’ll have to increase your commute time to say 1hr 15mins. Keansburg?

I'd suggest looking in Linden

Not sure of rents, but maybe try Elizabeth.

I used to pay 1100 in Clifton, large 1 bedroom garden apartment... 5 minutes from train station, 5 minutes from busses to NY. This was about 2-3 years ago.

Check Craigslist. Agency listings are more expensive.

Look into Mill Run Apartments in Union. Their website indicates there is a small (540 as ft) 1 br apt available for $1745. Mill Run has a pretty big footprint; lots of small buildings. Looks well-maintained.

Check out South Boundbrook. Might be a little further than 40 min outside of the City, but a coworker of mine found a nice updated 1 bedroom apt for $1500. No laundry facilities though.
