Yes in the high pitched voice almost cartoonish. Then the Series voice to follow with some background beat. I wish the drag strip was still operational. To much building on Texas Road and the surrounding area. They may still use that introduction for the Spring or Fall swap meet.

I always thought the voice was trying to be a knockoff Alvin (and the Chipmunks).

Mine says “YA-HA-HA-HA-HA” but otherwise, yeah, randomly. I grew up near there and remember summer nights sitting in the backyard and the sound of funny cars ripping on the track at night

Man I miss that place. It’s a shame the area got developed and then people complained about the noise. Also the lack of a safe shutdown area with pension road just after the catch net was a factor.

7

Captriker t1_j84fil0 wrote

Noise complaints didn’t shut down raceway park. Safety issues, insurance costs, and declining attendance were the primary reasons that lead to them shutting down events.

The dirt bike track and test track are still used and you can still hear them every weekend when

jskis23 t1_j84p0y0 wrote

People complaining added to it. I remember being a kid and they lined up a bunch of funny cars and started them all up as an F you to the surrounding area.

Hahaha yes

I was working in an office for my college internship and between tasks I went online to buy tickets to the 2004 Warped Tour in Englishtown.

I got to the venue’s website and didn’t realize my computer speakers were on, and the “oh ho ho ho ho” line blasted out loud as hell … just as my boss was walking by. Crap.

I panicked and closed the browser … Boss didn’t break stride or turn her head, but yelled in the voice, “RRRRRRACEWAAAAAAAY PARK!”

Great, I’m going to be hearing this in my head for the next two days. “RACEWAY PARK, ENGLISHTOWN, NEW JERSEY!!!!!!”

(And then there’s Englishtown’s OTHER great landmark, the Auction, but that didn’t have a memorable commercial on WABC, 99X, or New York’s Best Rock, WPLJ!)
