Saw something in the mud on my hike this morning, it was either the biggest raccoon in North America or something else. Maybe a bobcat? I forgot to take a pic. I could see really big claws, kinda splayed out.

I'm not sure. I have certainly seen some red foxes with bodies bigger than those of a typical raccoon, but that doesn't mean they have proportional paw sizes.

It was probably just a large raccoon and the mud made it look bigger. Really wet mud can make a track appear larger than it actually is.

This was my thought, too. I get all kinds of tracks in my yard, and the snow and mud always makes them look much bigger.
