I’m in Wharton NJ and the power is out all over town. Have no idea what happened but last night I heard a loud boom and a flash of light, almost like an explosion - not thunder/lighting.

I drove to my sisters in Randolph to work and her power just went out too…anyone have any idea what’s going on?

Got a text from Rockaway Twp. At 6:45 to expect delays due to widespread outages, pretty vague.

The explosion and flash of light is probably a transformer going bad. Hopefully, it will be just one on a pole (within the day fix) and not from a sub-station(uh-oh).

That boom may have been a transformer explosion. That could be very local (one street) or over a wider area.

In any event, call the power company and report your outage. They WILL NOT send anybody out to investigate if you (or a neighbor) don't report it.

I had heard years ago that the semi frequent non weather related outages are due to that substation being in desperate need of upgrade by nearby residents are blocking it.

When I lived in Parsippany I think the only outage I ever experienced was about 10 min during the height of Sandy. But since moving here I have had several outages a year consistently.
