It’s the same old story: In the mid to late 19th Century all the papists were arriving from Europe to destroy the nation and the WASP way of life. Nationalist Politics of the Know Nothings created fear and intolerance, and the Irish and Italian immigrant were relegated to tenement slums and the worst jobs. They quickly assimilated to American life and through hard work and close family and neighborhood connection build businesses, sacrificed to get their kids educated and filled the local churches.
