I'm shocked -- SHOCKED! -- that our openly corrupt senator continued his open corruption after getting off completely scot free the one time he was threatened with any accountability.

Maybe the only silver lining of Democrats losing the House is that it might push Sherrill, Kim, or one of the other Reps into a primary run against Menendez. It's a long shot, but maybe better than back-benching in the minority.

Malinowski has an uphill climb with the way the new districts have been drawn. If he loses to Kean, I'd love for him to replace Menendez.

He has baggage too. Ethics investigations or whatever. (I still want him to win)

2

Superfool t1_itxxi5l wrote

Not really though. That’s what the republican attack ads say. Truth is he self reported his own investments to the ethics committee, they told him what changes to make to be in compliance, and he resolved it.

Yep. They will vote column 2 without fail. Fools vote columns. You need to evaluate each candidate and vote

Doesn't matter, he will not vote to ban abortion

onehighlander t1_iu1uazr wrote

He is not up for reelection until 2024 and you have no idea who is running against. So that is a stupid comment made by a uninformed person. you should always vote the candidate, not the party. Nobody should vote straight column 1 or straight column 2.

3

Obvious_Ad9670 t1_iu1wzgi wrote

You switch parties? Your logic is flawed.

−1

onehighlander t1_iu202y5 wrote

Nope. Only a fool blindly follows one party. You vote for the best candidate.

Let's hope it sticks this time. Don't forget that he and his corrupt doctor friend made old people get unnecessary surgeries.

I loath Senator Menendez as much as any other rational adult.

But we're going to need a better source than a reporter from Semafor. The organization was created by Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith formerly of Buzzfeed.

By all means heap scorn and derision on old Bobby. But I'd prefer a more reputable source for this type of news.

EDIT. You are not the first to comment additional sources. His own office made a public statement hours ago. Read the rest of the thread.

Buzzfeed News is legit news paid for by bullshit lists from BuzzFeed.

11

s1ugg0 t1_itvt7f3 wrote

Cool. You do you man. I prefer wait for a second source when the first one is anonymous sources paid for by click bait quizzes of "Which Kardashian are you?"

Especially when it's an accusation of a criminal investigation. And I don't think that's unreasonable.

Just a heads up, BuzzFeed news won the Pulitzer for international reporting in 2021. It is a credible news organization.

The "good" news is that the Supreme Court has basically legalized political bribery, so unfortunately doubt anything will come of this legally speaking.

I wonder if Menendez will be able to reuse this quip when he skated in 2017: “To those who were digging my political grave so they could jump into my seat, I know who you are and I won’t forget you,”

I’d vote NY being worse than us as well.

2

PirateForward8827 t1_itwoegy wrote

Unfortunately NJ is worse.

1

sutisuc t1_itx0zuy wrote

Why do you think that?

1

PirateForward8827 t1_itx80ge wrote

Lived in NJ over 50 years. I've known some politicians, and I've known some people that paid for favors and influence.

1

sutisuc t1_iu0esk4 wrote

Eh “I lived somewhere” isn’t the best evidence because someone could just say that they lived in Illinois for fifty years and it’s worse than NJ. Definitely more people in government actually go to jail in Chicago/IL than they do in NJ so I’d definitely give the edge to them.

1

PirateForward8827 t1_iu0ms8h wrote

That wasn't my only evidence. And the fact that more people in government go to jail in Chicago/IL than NJ isn't persuasive. Just because more get caught and convicted doesn't prove that there is more crime and corruption.

1

sutisuc t1_iu0n5um wrote

What’s your other non anecdotal evidence? And sure but again you’re just speculating wildly in that case which isn’t particularly useful.

1

PirateForward8827 t1_iu0o1qr wrote

NJ has more governmental units (county, cities, towns, villages, school districts, authorities, etc.) than IL. There is almost no contract granted in NJ, whether it be for construction, legal services, insurance, investment advice, etc. without some payoff or influence peddling.

All I gotta do is look at the opposition for 5 minutes. Bob Hugin was pro-trump and anti-choice. Have to vote for the lesser of two evils. I'll vote for Menendez because he represents me as a constituent as closely as I can get in the legislature, not because he's a good dude. If he's breaking the law, let the legal system take him down, and gimme another candidate.
