Yup noticed the same. Rain or shine, taking the motorcycle until we hit freezing temp. Also, what's up with parents wanting to drop their children off to school in their own cars??? What's so bad about taking the school bus??

Bus only avail if you live 2 miles or more away. Otherwise it's walk or drive.

Really hope that bike bus thing catches on here. There should really be a protected, dedicated bike lane so kids can safely go to school. It would also give them some semblance of autonomy.

My plan is cargo bike when the kid gets old enough to need it. You can even get one with a full on cover like the pope mobile.

I wish but it’s just impossible when we live unless they shut down the busiest road around here to car traffic during the bike time. It’s kinda rural up here

So walk? 2 miles commute is kinda far for a walk tbh but it’s totally healthy and good for you so let’s walk that Bitch

Because we weren’t all kids once?

When you relinquish authority to your kids to decide if they’re walking or not, you might as well just give them away, because you’re not fully parenting anymore.

You're still a child in imagination land if you think a third grader should cross a highway unattended.

Why didn't you say a 2nd grader crossing a turnpike while being egged on by onlookers who are all shouting, "do it! do it! do it!"?

Third graders and highways everywhere? You're still a child in imagination land if you think that applies across the board.

Of course, there would be exceptions, but don't come at with me a shitpost as if that shitpost applies to every single school, in every single county, and in every single city or township.

It's not a shit post. There are places with pedestrian infrastructure but they are the exception I believe.

Did it every day going to school in suburban NJ elementary, walked a mile and a half. What highway in Piscataway is uncross-able, 18?

Kids in actual cities walk every day, this just seems like some helicopter parent shit.

I'd actually feel safer in an urban area. The suburbs have wide streets and people going 45 in a 25, running stop signs. In fog and rain. It is not safe, and I'm not willing to risk my kids life for it. The route to school was not designed for pedestrians.

Wrong, some of us have other responsibilities such as jobs where a 4 mile walking round trip just doesn’t fit in the schedule

A lot of schools count the 2 miles regardless of if you can actually walk that way, I know Piscataway did. You can only get to the school from the hoes lane side, not the south randolphville side, because there are no sidewalks along south randolphville road. And yet that counts towards the two miles as if anyone could walk that way 😠

Many districts don’t have busing and if they do it’s only if you live 2+ miles away. Parents should be carpooling though.
