Third graders and highways everywhere? You're still a child in imagination land if you think that applies across the board.

Of course, there would be exceptions, but don't come at with me a shitpost as if that shitpost applies to every single school, in every single county, and in every single city or township.

I'd actually feel safer in an urban area. The suburbs have wide streets and people going 45 in a 25, running stop signs. In fog and rain. It is not safe, and I'm not willing to risk my kids life for it. The route to school was not designed for pedestrians.

A lot of schools count the 2 miles regardless of if you can actually walk that way, I know Piscataway did. You can only get to the school from the hoes lane side, not the south randolphville side, because there are no sidewalks along south randolphville road. And yet that counts towards the two miles as if anyone could walk that way 😠

I think everyone has also collectively discovered the "secret" of going in earlier to beat the traffic and now traffic is solidly from 7:30-10:30am.

I used to be on a half full bus around 7:30 from Willowbrook Mall into the city, to arrive at 8:15, and now not only is the bus ALWAYS full, we ALWAYS arrive at 8:25/30 or worse now... However, the plus side is the commuter lot at the mall is so full that they don't care to check anyone's parking but the monthly people - I always park just slightly closer to the mall, in the "non-commuter" spots, and by the time I get back around 6 there's 50+ cars doing the same so it's no longer worth targeting delinquents if we're not actually taking up mall parking spots.

I'd leave later since earlier doesn't matter now, but the earlier I'm in, the earlier I can leave later that day...

itsaboutpasta t1_itvh023 wrote

When we had to go back in person I set my hours from 8:30-4:30 thinking I could “beat” traffic. I leave at 7:30 and I’m lucky to even be in my garage at 8:30 these days. Driving home isn’t much better. But I don’t know if it would make a difference to change my hours since even when I leave to go home after 5, traffic’s just as bad.
