I started a new job, primarily from home. But occasionally, I'd like to pop into the office in the city (located in Chelsea). Coming from central Morris County, it seems like the most economical way is to drive to a path station, then take it to the WTC or Christopher street.

All that said, I think Harrison is easiest for me to get to. Is there a good, affordable parking lot in the area for path users?

Also, open to other commuting suggestions I may have overlooked!

Parking garage next to the station is $15. Depending on where in Morris county you are you might want to consider a NJ Transit train if it's closer. Some stations have free parking, others are like $5-7. Tickets to Penn are like $10-15 depending on which station you get on at.

Yeah, you know I thought about a commuter line. My only hold up is the ride is really long (about 1.5 hours) and I'd get dropped off at Penn Station. So then I'm either adding a decent walk onto the commute or the subway. That time adds up quick!

Do you happen to have the address for that garage in Harrison?

Yeah I get what you mean. However, make sure you check traffic before you go. If there's an accident on 280 you might be better off taking the commuter train that day. Garage: 890 S 3rd St, Harrison, NJ 07029

There’s a parking lot right after the Path on the left, between the Path and the arena, that’s $10 cash. It was super close and easy to the Path, but leaving that parking lot was rough in the evening. I think I waited about 10-15 minutes till I could get to 280. The next time I go I need to find a lot closer to 280 and one that takes my commuter benefit credit card. The attendant mentioned that some of the other lots were only about 6 or 8 hours and in that lot you were good till midnight.

Where in Chelsea? That can definitely swing recommendations to one mode or another.

And from where in Morris County? Near Dover/Rockaway? Or further south like Morristown?

There’s a few other options I’d recommend:

Lakeland Bus, which runs along 46 and 80.
NJTransit train to Penn, then bus down to where you work (or enjoy the walk/bike)
Train to Hoboken, then PATH up 6th Ave (sounds like your work may be closer to there than Penn Station, both are on the edges of Chelsea) or ferry + bus
Train to Newark, change to PATH
Drive to a Park & Ride which has a higher frequency of buses, like North Bergen or Willowbrook, then bus to Port Authority

I can give you more info on any of these if you want.

If you’re trying to economize on price, driving tends to be more expensive than transit. From Dover to Harrison, for instance, is 30mi x 2 =60mi, which is roughly $38 ($.62/mi, more if you have a pricier car), before parking and tolls.

You don’t have to go to the nearest station or park&ride, but going to one which is not walkable/bikeable to your home necessitates a return trip to that point. Do consider biking for one or more legs, especially if you can choose the days you go in. Train + ferry would be a great option for this. Or bring a folding kick scooter if arriving at Penn/PABT/ferry.

I like the PATH a lot (and it seems more reliable than POS NJtransit) but it's a lot worse when you have to connect trains. Check about driving further into Jersey City to catch a train, or NJTransit.
