The instructor said “you did okay, but could’ve done a bit better” and critiqued my speed control.
He smiled and said “congratulations.”
He directed me to the place where to get my license (the people said come back tomorrow morning.)
On my exam, everything is marked “A” except for “speed control” which was marked “I.”
He placed a metallic great seal of the state of NJ on my permit.

Sounds and looks to me as though I passed, but I would’ve preferred a verbatim “you pass” to context clues. I don’t do context clues.

Yes I would say you did. At least you had it better than me man just scolded me and gave me the paper. I dead on thought I failed, but luckily I passed.
