I always think how utterly miserable it must have been back then. Hiking all over in the cold and wet, eating whatever gruel was available, getting infections and illness. Using outhouses in the cold. No antibiotics, painkillers, or heat.

We are so soft these days.

One time I was traveling from Frederick MD to Gettysburg. I wasnt even driving I was the passenger and I thought imagine marching all the way here. It sucks to be in a car much less walking it.

“Wait, so this whole Civil War thing isn’t about whether it’s called Pork Roll or Taylor Ham??”

Say goodbye to your wife. Hike for weeks to months. Tired, weak, sick. Show up to battlefield and get stabbed by a rusty bayonet.

Wounded for days then die in agony.

One guy knew to stand still, the other had no choice, and the other two were like "Hey, what's that guy doing under that cloth hood thing now?"
