The first line, House of Representatives. Unless I misunderstand your question.

Are you still in the 5th? New boundaries for this election. The sample ballot you have is for the 9th district, and looking at the maps, it looks like the 5th and the 9th border and may have had some areas move from one to the other.

If unsure, Wikipedia has the old and new maps for the 5th in the top right of their page on the district.

Either you are mistaken or you were mailed the wrong ballot. You should check your address on file with your county clerk. Paterson is CD 9, so if you are in Paterson, this sample ballot is correct.

Fellow Franklin Laker here, we are no longer in CD-5, we were re-districted and are now apart of CD-9. The candidates are in the first line

I feel your pain. We in the 7th will probably lose Tom Malinowski and get stuck with Tom Kean. First time I can remember a major party candidate who held 0 public meetings, and issued 0 statements on the issues. His website doesn't even have a phone number or eMail address where voters can ask questions, But there is a button to donate to his campaign.

It’s been streamlined. You don’t need to vote anymore. Republicans win regardless of vote count.

Row 1 is House of Representatives. Your district may have been gerrymandered so you’re now in a new one with unfamiliar candidates

That is a horribly deigned ballot though it emphasizes party over the office. It’s designed so you don’t need to think or read and just go down the party line. Designed by machine politicians to benefit the machine.

I have to thank Trump for one thing, making voting easier for me. Blue across the board. Thanks Donnie(and yes I have voted Republican in the past)

Really? I'm not sure what you think would be a better design than organizing the individuals by their party affiliation - having it this way makes it easier for people to find the candidate they're looking for.

runnj t1_iur7qya wrote

Yes, we should always make it as easy as possible for people to vote in the way they want. As soon as you start saying you should not make party affiliation (or non-afffiliation) clear, you are deliberately trying to make it harder for people to have their voices heard.

How nice of them to make that hard decision so I don't have to!
Now I can blame the government for me not making as much money as I want to instead of my employer, put Gawd and Jeebus first in life, and make sure everyone else is exactly like me or else I'll overthrow the US government!

Thanks GOP!

Maybe Democrats should take notes, streamline their operations, and start doing media and comms instead of constant policy pushing - just put the policies on the website and spend the rest of the time sabotaging and destroying the GOP candidate

metsurf t1_ius0x3g wrote

our county ballots are laid out more like an outline with the office as the header and all the candidates for the office under it with their party affiliation. Requires conscious effort to vote for a candidate for office.

Democrats have not more widely adopted her approach - direct comms to voters w social media, bypassing interviews and press conferences to go directly to people, not waiting for Republicans to do something before going after them as a party and as individuals, calling out BS and doing it loudly and forcefully - she's well known around the world despite being just a little old house member from Brooklyn. The fact that the Democrats have not gone to her and her team to figure out how to modernize their overall pitch to America's upcoming gen is a failure of the party writ large. It's a strategic failure, an aesthetic failure, and as a result, we have lost ground despite having millions more voters on our side than the fascists do. She's not the only one that does it well, but she's perhaps the most well-known.

Dems are too old, too slow, and too quiet. Too willing to make nice. Too willing to give away the store to avoid conflict. Too willing to compromise without extracting concessions.

GOP is strong and wrong.

Democrats are weak and right.

They have not been able to flip the script on their presentation, and part of this is because AOC and those like her are viewed by party leadership as too young and impulsive, instead of what is needed to adapt to the Internet Age.

Sorry, the slow/doddering/quiet/thinks-its-the-80s Democratic leadership being too unresponsive and slow to join in the fray is a personal pet peeve of mine.

With Pascrell you get an experienced pro-choice, pro-environment, pro-average people congressman.

His republican opponent is anti-choice, Trump supporting, for tax cuts for the wealthy trickle and down economics. The republicans want to gut social security and Medicare. Put the republican in and he's going to rubber stamp the Maga GOP agenda. Pascrell is on the social security subcommittee so he's someone who isn't going to kow-tow to the Maga agenda.

Nope. If the people of the district want this person to remain in office why have term limits? Crafting bills and passing legislation takes time. These people also serve on select committees and subcommittees. If you're forcing term limits it would be more difficult to get things done with the constant turnover.
