Wasting our time is the height of rudeness here and that's exactly what you did. So you get beeped at, pray we do not beep further.

You ought to apologize but since you lack manners you get indignant, as if it's cool to come into our culture and dictate how we should behave

Like i said, if it bothers you drivers so much, switch to the other lane instead of laying your hand on the horn for a whole minute because honking isnt gonna do shit. Plus i couldnt switch in the other lane with all those other cars coming through

I didn't read what you wrote but I mentioned this to my wife recently. That people are honking way more often.

My only possible answer is that all the New Yorkers that moved here have their Jersey plates by now. Naturally they honk their horns a lot.

It’s definitely in certain places in jersey. Other places in jersey don’t have this problem from what Ive experienced, but this was like my second or third time driving around this new area for me, and i would hear honking from everywhere all around, not just directed at me

I was turning into a shopping center parking lot earlier this week, and the car that was turning in front of me hit the brakes hard to let another car by. I rolled my eyes, but the guy in the giant F-5Million truck right behind me laid on his horn and I could hear him yelling out his window. He also tapped my bumper ever so slightly. He disappeared after that.

The woman driving the car came to angrily confront me after I had parked, thinking that I was the one that was pissed off with her. I told her that I don't honk for inconveniences, and about the truck behind me. We both agreed in the end that people need to learn to fucking relax.

If you're always in a hurry, maybe calm the fuck down a bit. Maybe leave five minutes earlier in your enormous landraper, so you don't have to rush so much that you hit somebody and flee the scene instead of getting the frosty you originally wanted.

Sorry, but if someone is on their phone, light turns green and they aren't moving, they get the horn.

Y'all sounds as if you are from the South, things move quicker in the North, doesn't mean we are unsafe!!

If it smells like horn everywhere you go check under your shoe.

This.

"I was having a chill drive". Okay turd nugget we don't care about tHe gEneRaL vIbE oF yOuR dRiVe. We're interested in the situation.

Second, the story has holes in it. The way OP tells it, there's a car in front of holding up traffic. So the guy wasn't honking at OP, he was honking at the guy in front of OP. I get you're in line of fire, and that's unfortunate, but you're not the main character. Sometimes shit is just unfortunate and you're in the background of it, mind your own business and don't worry so much about other people's problems. But then also, OP says "You don't have to fucking wait for me". So wtf was it, was there another car in front or are you lying out your ass for intrawebz pts?

Third, let's not skip the fact that OP's "you don't have to fucking wait for me" is OP demanding others work around him. That' OP acts as if they're a problem that everyone else should be putting extra effort into avoiding, which is a fucking shit attitude to have when driving a fucking car.

Look, I'm not there. And I hate the online comments that act like they know more than the person telling the story. So I'm not going to be "THIS IS DEFINITELY WHAT HAPPENED". It could be OP innocently omitted a detail from the story. But it sounds suspiciously like someone was trying to turn left at a no left intersection and deserved to have their ears blown out with a car horn. Most left turning lanes in NJ are just that: exclusively left turning lanes. If there's no exclusively left turning lane, it's usually a jughandle. Trying to make an illegal left? They deserve to go deaf, the last thing we need is someone's stupid ass plowing into a mom driving her kid to soccer practice because they can't read road signs. Again, maybe there were just key details accidentally omitted. Maybe it is the few roads that are stupid in this state (it happens, esp in rural areas). But that doesn't detract that as of now, there's no reason to support OP's story.

The appropriate response to being honked at is giving someone the finger and moving on with your day. Crying on reddit because it ruined "your chill" is something nobody really cares about any more than you care why that person may have been in a rush and honked their horn. If you're sharing the road with others and expect them to adjust to your mood, you're a fool.

Lol, funny thing is - you're in NEW JERSEY.

  1. Many people drive like assholes, it's what we do - and many out of staters f* up our flow - like PA drivers that drive the speed limit in the passing lane, causing bottleneck traffic jams.
  2. The person honking was probably already late and wanted to make the light. They don't care about arriving safely or on time - all they see is the car in front of them NOT moving. Like a bird that shits on your car, it's not a complex mentality.
  3. Ranting here isn't going to harvest much support because it's NEW JERSEY. The same asshole that laid on the horn would probably slam on their brakes if you were driving behind them too close.

Heck, I'll probably be downvoted to hell too - and I'm equally annoyed by people who overuse the horn, but, f* 'em - they're behind me and they can wait.
