I swear it feels like there are maybe 3 towns I can get a good signal for them! I love that station, but never listen because of the static

"If you don't like what you are hearing on WFMU, just wait five minutes."

Not being in their broadcast range makes me sad, but being able to stream anywhere makes up for it.

I suggest trying 91.1 WFMU in the morning when Clay Pigeon is on..his show might be more accessible to newcomers.

2nd vote for 90.7 WFUV.

IMO 92.3 was really stale-half of what you heard was also played on other stations (either stuff that bubbled up to the top 40 stations or stuff that's so old to be played on classic rock stations) and the other half was the same singles I've heard 8,000 times in the 2000s (no deep cuts, only the biggest songs from the biggest bands of the 2000s)

I've found so many great songs and bands through 90.7.

They still play stuff from popular artists but their is so much variety in what they play that it doesn't get stale

If you're Gen X like me, 90.7 WFUV and 107.1 The Peak make a great combo. U should pick them up anywhere north of Rt. 3.

Depending on where you are 107.1 The Peak may come in. It broadcasts out of Westchester county.

90.5 The Night broadcasted by Brookdale Community College. They play all kinds of genres so its usually worth tuning in to see what they're playing. They also play a lot of new music from local musicians.

Is that online?

If you see an HD logo when tuning to 92.3 you can access the HD2. Some cars have it turned off by default for some reason like Audi for example. But most cars with a basic radio don’t have it at all. In that case you can stream via Audacy, Apple Music, etc. I search alt 92.3 on Apple Music to get the stream when I am out of range for the HD signal.

Some cars have HD radio. It’s like “hidden” fm channels. I think it became more popular with 2012 and later cars

RippingAallDay t1_iychxt6 wrote

I have access to that with my jeep's factory radio.

It was like 92.3 before 1010 wins took over but there are less commercials

Alt 92.3 is now on 92.3 HD 2. Most modern car radios receive HD radio signals. You just need to press "tune" or "scan" and you should be able to find it if you're within reasonable distance from the broadcast tower.

89.1 WFDU - it's only part-time (about 1AM-4PM weekdays) over the air, but full time online. The programming leans towards oldies from 50s-70s. More like 101 than the others. Definitely not a lot of punk or metal there, except from the 70s or 80s.

They do have shows (archived online if you don't catch them) that emulate WNEW's "album rock" heyday and Brit-rock/punk too.

It's commercial free. They do take breaks and talk about other shows. But you'll never hear 1-877-KARS-4-KIDS there.

I also have to show some love to Uncle Floyd, with his Sunday AM show there.

90.3 WMSC might be worth checking out if you could tune it in. It's MSU's radio station.

101.5 has a bunch of yahoos talking during the week but decent on the weekends. A better 101.1 sometimes.
