How about Grounds for Sculpture or the Lambertville/New Hope area.

I haven’t been in years but it can be a lot of fun. Stroll around the grounds and then get some food and drinks at Rats

If you are planning on going to The Ground for sculptures make a dinner reservation at rat’s restaurant. The best experience and amazing food I have had. My wife and I had an amazing time there, just doesn’t make sense that the place exists in New Jersey. Amazing experience and your friend would love it.

Define day trip. Plot that distance/drive time. Each day visit something at the turn-around. Jersey is amazingly diverse, from Sussex County's High Point to Bergen's Alpine, to The Shore, Cape May and the Pinelands.

I guess day trip means somewhere that I could spend the entire day doing fun things 😂 I’ve never been to Cape May, is there anything to do there in the winter?

The Shore has a special beauty in the winter. You can do anything you do in the summer, depending on your cold-tolerance. Cape May's Victorian Xmas begins today, and could be your jumping-off point to explore the Pinelands.

History, anyone?

Start in Trenton.. revolution sites.. start at the baracks (you start backwards...)

Up the Delaware to Washington's crossing, (if you have time, Valley Forge before that)... Up to Morristown... For his 2nd-5th winter encampment.... A side trip would show the watchung mountains which offered fabulous vantage points for defense. Back via rt 206 to Princeton (battlefield).

BTW, fabulous to see in winter, when he camped there

Again, if you have time, Freehold.. for the Monmouth battlefield.

If you have days, add downtown Philadelphia, perhaps Haddonfield across the river (the continental congress escaped Philadelphia for the Indian King tavern)....

Or, visit Ft Lee and the Palisades... George escaped NY here, a few days after the battle of Brooklyn.

Thank you for this comment, fellow history nerd. Saved me some time. Fort Lee reenactment is this weekend I believe, BTW. I know people camping there all weekend. Think about them warm in your bed at night lol.

I don’t know if my friend will be interested in american history stuff. I was thinking more like malls or restaurants

Is Golden Nugget Flea close to you? Unsure how it operates in the winter but it’s a great stroll with lots of vendors.

Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange has one of the best views of NYC without actually going there.

Also take them to any diner except Tops. Fuck Tops.

Get an EB with THEC & SPK one morning.

Go to Asbury Park and get drunk at Bond St. Bar.

Punk Rock Flea Market on Dec 10&11 in Trenton.

Mount Tammany Hike but get there before 6 am on the weekend because trust me.

If you like hiking the Delaware Water Gap and the Palisades are great. A lot of great Korean restaurants in Ft Lee near the Palisades, and Stroudsburg near the Water Gap has some good eats.

If you're looking for something closer to home Crystal Lake Park in Bordentown and Bordentown has good restaurants.

Gayeon is where I went to and was very good, but a bit pricey ($50-100 per person(not counting drinks)). There's a bunch of options though so feel free to look around.

Diggerland in West Berlin!I think it’s an hour or two away from you. If it’s not too too bad snow wise of course. The American Dream Mall is also a good idea if the roads aren’t super bad. Can also do the drive thru lights at Shady Brook.

Princeton, Lambertville, Asbury Park, Cape May, Montclair, and Millburn are my favorite downtowns.

Hiking wise, Sourland Mountain Reserve shouldn’t be too far from you (I’m in Princeton and it’s about 25 mins from me). On a clear day, you can see the NYC skyline from it. Eagle Rock near Montclair is also gorgeous.

Lots of good breweries and distilleries around. Flounder Brewing and Bellmara Distillery are both great, both in Hillsborough. Also love Unionville Vineyards.
