NJ needs to make it legal to pump your own gas. Too many times in the past year I’ve gone to Wawa or QC and see half the lane coned off with one attendant. Open those lanes up to self serve, I’m pumping my own gas anyway.

It's more insulting than anything, assuming NJ thinks we can't pump gas without dying. I mean, i like not having to get out of my car, but it's not like we explode the second we leave the state and need gas.
I get that going self serve would eliminate jobs, but I'd rather pump my own gas simply out of convenience.
I don't get the hardline stance against it. I get it, Jersey whatever, go fuck your self, porkroll, taylorham, etc. But I pump my own gas and have no issues. I just really don't understand the abject hatred towards pumping you own gas.

It's a hard line stance against switching it to cost the exact same or more, while also being shittier. I don't see what's so great about a worse way of pumping gas. Self serve makes gas stations slower. It makes lines longer. It sucks. Everybody has to do it themselves including the people that can never figure out how it works and the people that can barely get out of their car let alone start playing gas attendant without taking forever.
I've spent many years in places where you pump your own gas and my experience was that it was objectively worse in every way I can imagine. I just don't see what's so great about this much shittier way of doing things.
Call me crazy but I'd rather the experience of getting gas be quicker, easier, more affordable, and more comfortable. I know that's a really dramatic hardline stance to take but I guess I'm just a rebel.

You’re assuming the coned off lanes are functional.
Not sure what the thrill is with pumping your own gas. They won’t cut the prices, you’ll leave thousands of people unemployed, and there’s nothing quite so “enjoyable” as standing in the cold as freezing rain pelts your head while you try to fill your tank.

I’ve asked they are closed because they can’t hire enough staff to open all the lanes. I’m not saying full serve goes away I’m saying make it legal for me to pump my own. What gas station do you go to that doesn’t have a canopy?

can you name a single self serve gas station that also has full service? it will go away.

Wind doesn’t exist in your world?

I am not interested in self-serve. I am cool in the summer, warm in the winter and dry when it rains.
If you do not like the full service at your gas station, find another one.

No we don't shut up.

Absolutely. Here are the issues I've had with full serve: spilling gas on my car (overfilling), scratching my car, losing my gas cap, pumping regular when I asked for premium (my car doesn't run well on regular), and the big one: taking a photo of my credit card! And yes, I've been yelled at for pumping myself.

Time to retire the 87 Buick.. gas caps are tethered these days

And how exactly did they lose the gas cap? Did the attendant fucken Hail Mary the thing into the highway?
paulgraz t1_ixaa2f4 wrote
After 230k miles, tether was broke - due to other gas jockeys.

Hard pass. I want to keep going to full service and I don't feel like paying a bunch extra for the honor. Because you know self serve won't be cheaper than gas is now, full service would just be more expensive than gas is now.
