Just a reminder that there are millions of pets sitting in cages for years on end in shelters. Please consider adoption this December!!!

Anyone have any updates on the Barnes & Noble in Paramus on 17? I'm hearing it's relocating to where Modell's used to be and their space seems to be on sale

Are you allowed to pump your own gas at the Vince Lombardi or other Turnpike locations? My mind is drawing a total blank.

2

rewardiflost t1_iz8umce wrote

No. They won't allow you to, and those stations usually have the pumps set with a card requiring an employee to unlock it.

Plus, it's illegal. https://www.nj.gov/labor/safetyandhealth/resources-support/laws-regulations/gasact.shtml#3A-6

34:3A-7 says "No person shall dispense fuel at a gasoline station, unless the person is an attendant..."

The law says the fine would be between $50-$250. I have no idea if anyone has ever been prosecuted or not under this law.

Many communities are battling warehouse applications to their zoning and planning boards. We need to demand a halt to these facilities, which are a threat to public safety, cause congestion and pollution, and a degradation of infrastructure that taxes won't cover.

Very stuck on a choice between apartments in NJ if anyone could help.

  1. 2br with roommate in Riverside, NJ. 11 mins from work, roommate is a stranger. $1025/month is my individual payment. Don’t know much about Riverside. Doesn’t look that great to be in. Not sure how reliable train is for weekends into philly.

  2. 1 Br in Collingswood, NJ. $1440/month, I have been looking at this town for a while, seems like a really nice place to live, and thats probably the best rent I’m gonna get there without finding a roomie. 20-30 minutes from work, thats doable because Imm currently commuting an hour and its torture.

Caveats: I am lucky enough to make about $96K/yr, I could afford either place but the issue is wanting that extra couple grand to stick into a travel account for a large trip I want to plan in 1-2 years time. At the same time I don’t have a lot of time to decide and I have no idea what living in Riverside is like or if its gonna make me miserable for a year.

I know neither is gonna break bank, again I’m pretty lucky that rent and student loans are my biggest expenses as of now. Its more a question of actually keeping more of my hard earned money or having what I assume is a higher quality of live in Collingswood (not to dunk on my Riverside folks, I just don’t know town)

Hugh_Jeffincock t1_j0l5tkr wrote

If it were me I'd go Collingswood all the way. Riverside is low key ghetto. Those two choices are almost polar opposites. Plus there's tons to do in Collingswood/Haddonfield. Great downtowns and lots of restaurants

Edit: Also Patco station into Philly is right there in Collingswood. Direct into Philly vs in Riverside taking the light rail to get to the Patco

Yeahh true. Looking riverside it seems pretty much a bum town.

The $1440 scares me though. I want to be able to pay off the rest of my federal student loans and put money into rainy day/travel accounts. But I guess you can’t have it all lol.

Appreciate the advice!

I would avoid Riverside and go with Collingswood.

I haven't been to the Stew Leonard's at the Paramus Park Mall yet. Do they have an international foods aisle by any chance? I like a supermarket with a decent international foods aisle.

If I have an EZ Pass from NY (it says Port Authority of NY & NJ and my login is on the ezpassny website) do I need to get a NJ one too? I figured I'd just have both but I don't want to do that if it's gonna create a problem. My address is NJ and I never had an NY address, for clarity.

I have a NY ez pass that I got when living there. I've been using it and living in nj for 2 years. I think Technically, you should have a nj one but I haven't had a problem with keeping the NY one. I've also always had nj plates with the NY ez pass, no problem w that either.

We got EZ Pass when we lived in NY over 30 years ago and we still have it ! Moved to NJ in 1995.

sparklyrelish t1_j0imat1 wrote

My father used to be a trucker. Always taught me to get EZ pass NY instead of NJ because going in and out of NYC is cheaper for NY ez pass holders.

100% do this if you go into the city at all. I live in JC and occasionally bring gear into the city for work and it saves way more than any tolls I pay in NJ.

Hi, if my friend is here in nj with a work program (she babysits while living with that family) and got her degree in Mexico as “Engineer in business and marketing“ I think it is the same as bachelors here but not sure, would it count for her if she wanted to do masters or possibly use it in the future to get a job in her field, or would she have to do bachelor degree from scratch? How would she be able to transfer credits if she would want to do that to a school in NJ?

I’m also wondering, if she would be able to apply for financial aid, she doesn’t make much so wondering if they would cover her education or some of it, but she is not a resident or citizen, but has a work visa so not sure if she would be eligible?

paramapotomus t1_j256pa1 wrote

Most schools know how to transfer credits from foreign colleges and universities. If she can get her transcripts, and whatever her previous school's course catalog is, they can tell her what the US equivalency is. Be careful with your expectations though, a lot of foreign countries call a high school diploma a "bachelors".

As for financial aid, NJ has something called a Dreamers program where qualified students can receive TAG (Tuition Aid Grants) at qualifying colleges and universities. Depending on the school she attends, this could cover a significant portion of the tuition. Google NJ Dreamers to see if she qualifies. Feel free to ask me questions.

I fucking despise the DMV. Back in October I sent in a form for my drivers license renewal, the ID never arrived- filled online for a replacement at the end of November (after my birthday and the license expired) they never sent a replacement. After calling multiple times a day they finally told me my license is in the mail.

What the fuck happened to going to a DMV and then printing out your ID on the spot?! Like cmon there is no reason that it should take this long and be this complicated to get a drivers license renewal.

I guess learning the ineptitudes of the NJDMV is a right of passage for every adult in NJ.
