I need to install new headlight assemblies and some other miscellaneous parts on my car, but do not have a garage of my own. It would be far easier to get this work done indoors -- even better if there's a lift available.

Can anyone recommend a place? I know garage rentals are kinda dying out, but I wonder whether someone knows of a hidden gem.

I'm in Central NJ, but am willing to drive.

Insurance won't let you in the garage without an escort. Any of the bigger shops will tell you to get lost. But the solo mechanics that operate out of gas stations tend to be a little more willing to bend the rules for good (read: return) customers in my experience, especially if they've got a spare lift. Look for gas stations with a dozen parked cars in various states of [dis]repair.

I am sorry but I don’t know of any. I’m not a car guy, but would be interested to see if there is a market for something like this. Hourly/daily garage bay rentals with basic tools?

100% market for it. I needed to wrench on my car a few years ago but didn't have a garage. Looked all over NNJ for a place that would let me rent some garage space for 3-4 hours. Nothing.

I’d imagine the insurance costs would be prohibitive for shops to allow this. I guarantee that’s why it’s hard to find many places willing to allow it.

When you see videos of JiffyLube “techs” drilling holes in gas tanks to drain them, it all makes sense.
It’s a difficult situation plus what if you run into a snag and the car is disabled for a long period of time?
