TLDR: My new auto insurance policy will be active one day after the current one expires, is that okay?

My current auto insurance policy is from Jul 5th to Jan 5th, and I have decided to change a company. At that time I was thinking: "Okay then I should start the new one on Jan 6th", however today I discovered my current one would expire in the first minute on Jan 5th:(

So basically, I know I should not drive the car on Jan 5th, and I wonder whether that will be reported to MVC and affect my registration? Should I call the new company to see if they can start my policy one day earlier, or just leave it alone, not driving the car on Jan 5th is good enough?

Sorry if this question is dumb:( This is my first time owning a car so I don't know related regulations very well...

Many thanks for any help!

Call the new company and change the start date. They should be able to change the policy start date easily.

call your new insurance company asap. they can change the start date and issue you new docs. this is a thing that does happen and your insurance company will make sure you're not driving uninsured at any point.

Insurance policies usually start and end at midnight on the given date. So your old one will end on January 5th at midnight and your new one will begin on January 6th at midnight so there will be zero gap.
