Did you just say authentic Mexican and then chain in the same breath?

If it’s a chain it’s mex-American or Tex mex

Is Los Gueros either of these two? Serious question.

Definitely a chain, since it has a gringo style I’m going tk have to call it mex American

Edit: they have a Cubana they call a “Mexican” style sandwich and that makes me irrationally angry

I think the majority of sit down Mexican restaurants I go to give free chips and salsa when you dine in. In Middlesex county there is Jose Tejas, on the border and chevys that are all chains and all have free chips and salsa. Since you tagged central nj these are all on rt 1 between Woodbridge and Lawrenceville

I haven’t been to an on the border in years. I think they do a table side guacamole. But really how different are any of these fast casual restaurants anyway?

EagleFly_5 t1_j0v3xk0 wrote

La Fortaleza usually does whether for takeout/delivery or dining in, they’d pair it with salsa. They’re also a chain technically since they have 5 locations across North NJ.

I mean I don’t know about authentic but since you asked about chains too, Chili’s has free chips & salsa if you put in your phone number.

Please don’t be that person, sitting in a table, expecting the server to keep getting you free chips and salsa.

I don't think I've been offered free chips in a real Mexican restaurant. By real I mean the places in New Brunswick like Oaxaqeños, which is a hole in the wall but good and opened like 22 hours a day
