These guys make great sandwiches, have great crass Jersey attitudes, and the handwritten signs in the shop are incredible.
I just honestly wish the sandwiches were smaller. Like, the photo is probably no bullshit what you’d get, as I’ve had stuff with like a pound of prosciutto on it in the past.
It’s impossible to eat without taking half the shit out of the roll, and then you’re left with just a pile of meat and condiments that you need to buy a roll to turn it into a second rate leftover sandwich.
It is probably an unpopular complaint, but I don’t need a Taliercio’s or Harold’s display of gluttony— just knock a few bucks off the cost of the sandwich and give me something a normal person can eat for lunch.

You can order a half hero if a whole is too much for you and they offer semolina bread. You can literally make 2 sandwiches out of 1 or save half for dinner or lunch the next day. Taliercios all day every day. #1 lunch spot in NJ!

Yea, they call them toasted raviolis. I don't specifically ever recall seeing them on a menu in Jersey. Not to say they don't appear, but I've never heard it as a Jersey thing, unless you really want to stretch NJ being Italian to mean all Italian related food is characteristically NJ

I went a few months ago and it was bad. Their bread is average at best, and my veal cutlets were ice cold. And I’m pretty sure one was chicken or pork too. Whack.

I really don't understand why people rave about Taliercio's so much. Tried it once, and had a pretty bad experience. I ordered food online, and it took about 20 minutes longer than the quoted time to be ready because my panini was apparently still on the grill. Well that panini was absolutely ice cold when I got home less than 10 minutes later. It definitely hadn't just been cooked. And all 3 sandwiches were incredibly bland. Nobody enjoyed them. I also had to wait by the register for 10 minutes before the cashier even acknowledged me. Meanwhile people who came in after me were able to order and cash out right away. It was not at all worth the hype, in my opinion.
Educational_Paint987 t1_j6ab1f3 wrote
Not at all. it's interesting to know they started in st louis.
Longtermthrowaway5 t1_j6abjtl wrote
Oh I'm not saying it started there, just that it's a thing they are known for. I guess I misunderstood you then. What did you mean when you said it doesn't get any more nj than that?
dakanektr t1_j6abkhz wrote
This place has to be a mob front lol they give away their stacks of deli meat at a price/lb cheaper than you can currently get at ShopRite.
For those hating, this is not gourmet Italian, the guys behind the counter are putting on a show of being rude, reheat your oversized sandwich when you get home, it’s fine, no one should eat this shit more than 4 times a year
Educational_Paint987 t1_j6ac7m6 wrote

This place is pretty much in my backyard and I won’t go there anymore because the service is horrible. I’ve waited 20 minutes at the register just to pick up an order. The food isn’t special enough to bother with that.

Oh wow, now I know this is not just a doordash/Uber driver problem. As a Doordash driver, I refuse to pick up their food anymore. I doordashed there a couple of times and would have to wait FOREVER to get the food, and I was never acknowledged as well, while other customers who arrived way after me and ordered on the spot were taken care of. I would lose money because of them, having to wait so long. And the guys who work there are a**holes. I would think to myself, "If they hate doordash so much, why do they even have it?" But now I know they do it to regular customers too. And the food doesn't look that great imo.
Edit: Error-Changed the word "before" to "after."

guardianofsplendor t1_j6bkfeu wrote
I think you probably mean people who arrived way after you were served first, but yeah, that was exactly my experience. And it wasn't just me. There were at least two or three other people waiting for pre-orders, and we were all repeatedly ignored while the cashier rang out all the in-store customers first. I guess they just don't like people who order online. So you're right. Why do they even offer that option if they're just going to treat those customers like dirt? And the one employee I asked a question to was rude as heck. So, yeah, their overstuffed bland sandwiches ain't worth it. And you definitely shouldn't lose out on money because their service sucks.

I did mean that because I thought that's what you were referring to that makes it really new Jersey-like. That still doesn't make sense to me though if you are talking about the style of sandwich. I wouldn't say NJ is particularly known for piled high bun sandwiches. I'd say it's either breakfast sandwiches or sandwiches on a sub roll, but not particularly this style.

While I'm here I might as well brag about my favorite sandwich shop. It's a local sub shop in Sayreville called Big Wally's. Great subs, crazy amount of hot subs/wraps that are called different names, but they'll also do whatever for you. It's a cash only place, but it's the only place I'll go out of my way to go take out cash for. Just be sure to pre-order it so you don't wait there for 30 minutes, they haven't brought back eat-in yet but they had a few tables pre-pandemic. Their hot sandwiches are great, especially anything on garlic bread with pesto. Their bread deliveries I think are from NY? not sure, but it's good.
