Like you, sometimes they center around "no control," and were mostly that the brakes don't work (like someone else mentioned).

Some other times, the steering is off.

Other times, I'm in the backseat and there's no one in the front, so I gotta drive.

Some other times, though, the themes have been really amazing. Like exploring, journeying to new lands, seeing something beautiful, even bouncing in a safe but physics-defying way, or even flying.

Dreams are cool, mysterious, and have crazy emotional impact (to the dreamer, while sounding fairly silly and uninteresting to listeners lol).

22

rpd9803 t1_j6jyhoo wrote

I think the answer lies squarely between the haters and the fan boys: they’re meh. Electric vehicles are cool. Some of the vehicles are novel, but they’re also kind of built poorly and just sort of typical mediocre car quality.

6

StrategicBlenderBall t1_j6kuyh0 wrote

I have a Y and a 3. My 3 had some minor cosmetic issues when I picked it up, Service Center fixed it and that was that. My Y, built in Austin, is perfect. Coming from a 2018 CTS and Grand Cherokee, I’d say the Y and 3 are on par quality wise. The materials are somewhere in the middle, but the seats are damn comfortable for the price range.

But the best part of any EV is the power and convenience, and that’s really the reason I went with Tesla. Nobody can touch the range and the Superchargers are the best until EA catches up.

2

StrategicBlenderBall t1_j6jrx1v wrote

1

StrategicBlenderBall t1_j6jketi wrote

I’m sorry to hear that. EVs, over the course of their lifetimes, are cheaper to keep on the road. There is very little maintenance required since there are very few moving parts.

Yes the batteries are expensive, but that’s only because BEVs and hybrids have not been the norm. Now that they’re mainstream, the incentive for battery recycling is now on the table. Tesla is already working it at GigaTexas and other manufacturers are looking into it.

0

SailingSpark t1_j6jpnwn wrote

Honestly, I do not find the price of replacing the battery pack to be that onerous. I saw one invoice for a model 3 that was out of warranty. The cost with parts, labor, and taxes was $16,000. Years ago I had the V8 in my Landrover replaced. Parts, labor, and taxes came to $10,000. Yes the Tesla cost more to do, but it is a lot complicated that a regurgitated Buick engine stuffed into an English SUV.

4

stickman07738 t1_j6jnmiv wrote

Sorry. Do not believe because there is only one manufacturer with greater than 10 years of reliability and there issues have been spotty. I have a 98 Dodge Ram with routine maintenance has minimal cost to me.

−1

StrategicBlenderBall t1_j6jqprf wrote

You’re comparing ICE vehicles, which are very complex machines, to EVs which are inherently simple. An electric motor is frictionless. PCBs are easily replaced. Batteries are also simple.

Also, how’s the rust on your Ram? Have you averaged out how much that truck has and will cost you over its lifetime?
