My retired parents are in a pizza rut. Every place they’ve tried in the last few years has been a bust. I live in Minneapolis and can’t scout new places for them. Can you recommend any solid, New York-style pizza places in their area? I don’t know how much longer I can bear their forlorn texts of disappointment, yearning for a decent pie. Thank you!

Italian Village Pizza in Madison my go-to and I don’t see it mentioned here yet. Nicky’s firehouse pizzeria is good as well. Krust kitchen is a good one if you’re looking for very hearty/interesting pizzas

I grew up in Summit and my mom still lives there so I’m in the neighborhood pretty regularly. Zappia’s pizza in Summit is pretty solid for NY style - Trattoria is a little fancier style but probably the best in the area, but as far as I recall they don’t deliver. There’s a new spot on Union Place called SQR or something like that and it’s also really good, but again, not classic NY style. Honestly can’t really go wrong with any pizza place in that area in my opinion, which spots have you already tried?

Thanks for this! They’ve tried Armenio’s, The Shop, and Hickory Tree. Hickory Tree was their go-to through the mid-90’s but has apparently taken a dark turn.

Edit: Also Coppola’s

Sure thing! I haven’t tried any of those places but my mom likes Bellariva in New Prov for a good football pizza too, so that’s prob worth giving a shot. There’s a very highly rated spot on the one bite app in Short Hills that seems like it should be promising as well, but I’ve never been there either. There are a ton of places in north jersey that are worth a drive too, so keep that in mind!

Report back with your findings, I’m always down for a new slice.

You trust Dave portnoy's opinion question mark

With regard to his reviews, I don’t take his word as gospel but it’s a relatively consistent barometer in my opinion, especially when you’ve got a couple of the same spots under your belt. I use it for the community ratings as well.

When I lived in Chatham, my two go-to places were Armenio's down the street from the library in Chatham Boro, and especially Hickory Tree in that shopping center in Chatham Twp.

My vote in that area is Millie’s Meatballs in Morristown. They have coal fired and wood fired pizzas. It’s worth the trip.

My wife who's been making her own yeast and pizza dough honestly has been killing in this past few months with her pizza.

I'd recommend " Mary's " since hers has been next level. Can't lie

Our kids, their friends, our friends who's visited all have tried and loves it as well.

Sorry I know my response doesn't not assist you at all regarding your parents unless they want to travel all the way up to NNJ 🙂
