I have never seen or heard of this stuff. Look, pizza sauce is really easy, you add whatever veggies and herbs you want, the secret is adding a bit of chicken stock

Personally I really like an oniony sauce so I sautee up a whole yellow onion, and a couple of garlic cloves (diced and sliced, respectively). Open a can (28oz) of peeled plum tomatoes and puree it either with a blender or a stick blender thingy ( it's too early to remember the name) and dump it into a pot with the sauteed stuff and a splash of chicken stock Add your herbs now if they're dried or simmer for at least 30 minutes, the longer the better you all know this. Then add your fresh herbs if you're using fresh.

You might be asking "no sugar" and that's correct no sugar, you might wanna add it but I hate sugar in any tomato sauce, it's not good

Oh honey, it's how they make pizza sauce in most NJ pizza places, just ask your local place what's in the sauce

> This is the kinda stuff that makes me not want to eat other people's home cooking.

You were not invited to eat my cooking. But if you want you can come over and I'll make a nice vegan/vegetarian meal for you, as long as you drop the shit attitude assuming I'm some sort of asshole who would feed animal products to someone who doesn't eat them, because it's unnecessary.

Maybe some grilled veggies on fresh baked bread (no eggs in the bread) or I make a mean golden curry stir fry with potatoes, onions celery and carrots

I am not a food snob by any stretch of the imagination, but I still don't understand why people would use jarred or canned sauce unless you've got some kind of disability that makes it hard to cook. It's super easy to make yourself.

It tastes like childhood to me . Throw it on a pizza crust and fresh cheese. It’s a completely different vibe with the Don. It’s definitely not good for you (corn oil) but man it does hit the spot sometimes.

It's not the best tasting pizza sauce out there but I'll be damned if I buy anything else!

Grew up in town. Towards the end of summer you could smell tomato sauce all over town… the smell of going back to school LOL.

Also: I got my license as a junior, but only seniors could park in the HS lot. Don Pepino let us park along the edge of their lot, along the bike trail. :)

I use it for homemade pizza all the time. Just for pizza though.

Crushed (good) canned tomatoes, olive oil, salt, maybe couple slices of garlic. Why is that so hard?

And don't pre-cook your pizza sauce.

I will use the spaghetti sauce when I don’t feel like making my own. Just add my own spices.

As an Italian living in the US, I can vouch the best pizza sauce is simply tomato sauce without any addition, no onion, garlic, parsley... (we call it "Passata di pomodoro"). It's hard to find, even in NYC, but it is the best way to keep a fresh taste and let emerge better the taste of the other ingredients.

My mom was a working woman but Fridays were our pizza night with Don Pepino. It's not so much taste when it comes to this can - It's about the memories that went along with it.

My in-laws LOVE this stuff. We are a san marzano house. Or a jar of Rao's which is always on deck.

I can make pasta from scratch but I gotta sit there and make the dough, let it rest then roll it out and let it dry etc. Sometimes i'm okay with the 1$ box of pasta instead of spending an hour+ and with the price of eggs going up probably $1 + on the recipe

This stuff is legit. I make full on neopolitan pizza in an ooni oven, and this stuff is almost as good as making it myself from San Marzano tomatoes.

We grew up in the town where this was made. Fond memories of the aroma of tomatoes cooking down in the summer.

We used to peek in the door and watch the cans speed down the packing line.
