I moved from VA to NJ. Completed the registration and title transfer for NJ. I was told by the MVC employee that I have to complete new vehicle inspection in 14 days.

I am planning go to Rahway MVC this Saturday. Has anyone done this? How long does the inspection take? Do I just need to have the registration , insurance and my license and join the queue of cars for inspection?

Asking to plan properly and save time. Thanks

Update: Thanks to everyone who took time to share useful inputs. I went today (13th Jan, Saturday) around 8:40 AM and there was only couple of other cars in queue. Was able to get it all done in 10 minutes.

Try to go during the week if you can. I got my car inspected at the Wayne MVC today and I was in and out of there in less than 10 minutes. There was no line. If you go on Saturday they are only open until noon and you are much more likely to wait in line. Once you get your car into the garage you show them your insurance, license, and registration, and then you get out of the car and wait in a little area on the side of the garage until the inspection is completed.

Inspection in nj is emissions only, check engine light needs to be off and the emissions cycle as ready (so you can't just reset the computer right before the check), they just plugin to obd2.

Takes 5-10 minutes if theres no line.

Its free at state inspection places.

License registration insurance

https://pweb.nj-cleanair.com/waitqueue/pages/facility/home.jsf has webcams to show the line at all the locations.

Oh yeah, they also pressure test your gas cap.

The inspection is about 10 minutes. You need Insurance card, registration and driver's license. They only test emissions. However the lines can be a lot longer. It's a Holiday weekend so expect a lot of cars. The earlier you go the better.

How old is the car? If less than 5 yrs they don't inspect, they will just apply the sticker. MVC would have given you a green slip. You would just visit the inspection supervisors office with that and your registration, and they will walk out and apply the new car inspection sticker.
