It may have been a way to hurt actual child trafficking investigations by flooding the system with claims and forcing investigators to decipher what was real and false. In fact there are actual stories about the movement hurting operations.

Given the orgins of Qanon it would make sense. Jim Watkins the suspected creator of the conspiracy theory at one point was hosting a CP site.
