Back in the 80s I was working at a carnival that played Norman OK. Some girl had hooked up with one of the ride guys the spot before and followed him to Norman. Her Okie boyfriend showed up and shot the carny guy. Our next spot was Broken Arrow and they wouldn’t let us set up there. Because some stupid jealous Okie from some other town shot one of our guys in a different town. Broken Arrow is stupid.

It is common for first responders to have mental health issues. They try to save the dying. They see the maimed bodies the rest of us are spared from. And in most places they do not make great wages.

Fuck, I had to attempt CPR on my grandfather (he was already gone, but I just followed directions in shock) a couple months ago and I have strong physical reactions to the memory of that first push. CPR is basic first responder stuff. I couldn't imagine the toll the more gruesome aspects take.
