Excerpt:

>Cities in central China hastily drew up plans to isolate migrant workers fleeing to their hometowns from a vast assembly facility of iPhone maker Foxconn in COVID-hit Zhengzhou, fearing they could trigger coronavirus outbreaks.

>Zhengzhou, capital of central Henan province, reported 167 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in the seven days to Oct. 29, up from 97 infections in the prior seven-day period.

>Apple supplier Foxconn, based in Taiwan, currently has about 200,000 workers at its Zhengzhou complex and has not disclosed the number of infected workers, but said on Sunday that it would not stop workers from leaving.

>Late on Saturday, cities near Zhengzhou, including Yuzhou, Changge and Qinyang, urged Foxconn workers to report to local authorities in advance before heading home.

>Under China's ultra-strict zero-COVID policy, cities are mandated to act swiftly to quell any outbreaks, with measures that could include full-scale lockdowns.

True, and they know it! Privileged chinese people would go and pay for the western vaccines.

It's not like US and Europe don't get waves of COVID. It'd just thay after a while we realized that it was doing more harm than good to even try to shut stuff down.

Shalimars t1_iuhq82h wrote

Well actually they stopped the lockdowns because with the vaccines there were fewer people dying or being in the ICU.

Synensys t1_iuhu6tc wrote

Right. Lockdowns in that circumstance did more harm than good.

Shalimars t1_iuhvet3 wrote

Sure, I see your point. Some areas did half-assed lockdowns in late 2021 that were fairly pointless.

Right now we are dealing with waves of influenza, which is hitting us harder than covid. Thanks to the vaccines covid is just a very mild sickness.

Their hospital system is concentrated in large cities, and their medical infrastructure can't cope with an outbreak

So kinda like the US

Why are you getting downvoted? It's true! A lot of hospitals and clinics are closing in rural America because they can't be staffed or are not worth the cost to keep open.

LOL, this is reddit after all. I'm convinced there are shills who do nothing other than follow posters that don't fit their MAGA narrative and downvote them into oblivion. Brigading.

CCP historically uses the economic growth as justifications of their rule. Due to their fuckups in the one child policy and the housing market, China's economy is going to crash and they are expecting unrests and challenges of their rule if that happens.

Covid is a perfect excuse for the CCP to the keep the boots on the neck of the Chinese people. The CCP has been promoting crazy theories like the US created the virus and is spreading the virus in China to destroy it's economy, and therefore shifting the blame. And Covid also provide the excuse for the CCP to tighten control and crash rebellions before they even starts.

With Xitler just made himself the de faco emperor of China, we will be seeing crazier and crazier things so Xitler can remain in power.

Apple said last week it also predicts that revenue growth will slow down in the next quarter.

Gee, ya think they knew this was coming?

Also, Foxconn has told employees it would pay more for those not to leave. The Washington Post now reports that a growing number of iPhone workers are walking out of the plant, with no plans to return.

Foxconn has denied the reports of failure to provide adequate food and medication, and said that it is offering transport to any workers who wish to leave the plant and return home. The iPhone assembler also says it is arranging additional production capacity at smaller plants, to help make up the shortfall.

Additionally, to deter workers from leaving or refusing to work, the company is offering free meals and a bonus of around 1,500 yuan ($200) for anyone who works all of their shifts from October 26 to November 11. This is around 20% of their monthly salary.

Jesus fuck do they ever have long tentacles - the YouTube stuff, Epoch times, NDT (which is basically that quasi-official “broadcaster” of all Turning Point stuff)… and that was before Guo started pouring tons of money in all the various media platforms.

Such bad news bears.

Well it's a good thing we can depend on Chinese state new- ah fuck that's even more lies. Guess there's no honest Chinese news outlet.

Yeah, I honestly don’t have a single Chinese news source that I would trust at even the most superficial level.

The Economist publishes good, well sourced pieces from time to time, and have a few academics I follow who have perspectives that pass fact + gut checks…but for day to day news I got nothin.
