How pathetic do you have to be to want kids like that?

technofox01 t1_iygq687 wrote

As someone who has studied Cybercrime in my post grad, people who do this were likely abused themselves, which still doesn't make it right but it explains one of the reasons why some people are drawn to it. Others are from mental health issues or miswiring of the brain that leads them to this dark path.

Either way rehabilitation might be successful for someone like this dude, which is what we should go for instead of just punishment. He may need mental health services and possibly an advocate if he was abused himself. He is young enough for rehabilitation programs to work and get him back into society without becoming a threat - assuming he follows through on his end.

That's just my two cents.

I understand what you're saying, but every time someone correlates sexual abuse with abusing others it just furthers the stereotype that people that suffer SA, men in particular, will go on to abuse others.

total_looser t1_iyh5hai wrote

I dont think its a stereotype when it’s true?

−12

DFWPunk t1_iyhutsd wrote

It's only true if it's universal, and it's not. As an abuse victim I can tell you people assuming that the fact you were abused means you will commit abuse is infuriating.

total_looser t1_iyi2jll wrote

I agree with you 100%. But the way stereotypes work, is that what is true in the macro is not true in the micro, but humans do the work that make the “true in the micro” part work for them.

And your evidence that it's true in the macro?

total_looser t1_iyim6nz wrote

I did actually start researching, but then you get all these weird google warnings and banners (“there’s help!”) so gave up.

Point taken though. Anecdotal and media common != true, esp with these crimes where sensationalization plays a key role and constant anguish from reliving this shit.

We will not know anytime soon because it is too risky for someone to tell their therapist they like kids and it is too risky to try to advocate for research and treatment of said people. There are plenty of monsters who do it because but I'm sure most are like you said and have something different inside.

Jon-theHuman t1_iyham4m wrote

So his excuse was that he found it online so he thought it was okay, which is probably bullshit but kinda makes me wonder.

Like, I've definitely seen online videos with naked young adults. But in real life, an 18-24 year old could look exactly the same as a 16 year old. If I think I'm "innocently" watching a video of what I'm assuming is a consenting adult, but turns out to be a 17 year old, am I gonna be charged?

16

AaronfromKY t1_iyic686 wrote

I feel like it would have to be much more stark of a difference to actually be charged. Like clearly pre-adolescent victims would be a lot harder to excuse, versus teenagers. Although I do remember this:

Jon-theHuman t1_iyijheq wrote

That's crazy. They had a pediatrician on stand to try saying that she was underage. They must have had it out for that guy.

EsotericAbstractIdea t1_iylcaqs wrote

Two things about this particular adult film star.

  1. She looked really young, and anybody would have thought is was child porn.

  2. One of the film directors she worked for was arrested for making actual child porn.

I remember on Google+ there was a page showing CP - toddlers and stuff. It took over 2k people mass reporting to get rid of it, but I'm still scarred. I was 14yrs old when that happened.

Not_n_A-Hole_usually t1_iyjp8yz wrote

I didn’t read this particular article, but I did read another on this incident. The wording used to describe the offending images hinted rather strongly that you’d have to be fairly blind to not recognize that one of the people in the images was most definitely under the age of 18.

7

Jon-theHuman t1_iyjslv8 wrote

And that's what I assume. I'm curious if there is a vetting process for porn sites that advertise using words like teen, young, innocent, etc.

3

Not_n_A-Hole_usually t1_iyk8bdf wrote

Well, a couple years ago there was a big kerfuffle about that in the news concerning PornHub. Apparently some content leaked past whatever moderating system they had in place. In response they simply removed a whole swath of content if there was no way to verify the ages of people in said videos and will not promote or allow uploads of anything they can’t 100% verify as being legal content. I imagine other “major” porn sites likely followed suit.

I can only imagine the amount of money a site like Pornhub pulls in on a monthly basis. Completely reasonable that they’d install a policy moving forward that anything unverifiable is denied a posting.

I don't think they can control what they're attracted to. Nobody wakes up and says "hmmm I want to be attracted to kids now"

15

MattyEC t1_iygkbh1 wrote

Sure, but they're fully aware of what they're doing, so that mental illness in no way excuses them.

Anyone who kills, tortures, or rapes is mentally ill on some level, but that doesn't qualify for an "insanity defense" unless their mental illness meets certain criteria, e.g. being incapable of understanding the consequences of their actions.

Similar situation with a pedophile: sure, he must be mentally ill on some level, but he's aware of his actions and deserves to be executed as far as I'm concerned.

And quite frankly, if someone is so ill that they're hardwired for an uncontrollable urge to molest children, then that's an equally dambing proof that they have no right existing in a civilized society.

Some people act like attraction is random. There's always a reason for your attraction. ex: people in their 30/40s attracted to 18yros normally have a control/power issue that they might not have with someone in their age/income bracket. Same with bdsm or any other sexual "kink". Let's not excuse their behavior with "they can't help it" because they can.

Re-AnImAt0r t1_iyis5hi wrote

no, people in their 40s physically attracted to 18-20 year old adults are attracted to them because of their physical beauty that has not diminished with age, all their parts are still firm and in the proper place. This goes for both men and cougars checking out the muscled college boys with 6-pack abs alike. They are much more attractive than their 40 year old counterparts with skin damage, joint pains, beer guts, sagging breasts (on both men & women), stretch marks, saddlebags and wrinkles. The eyes you have at 20 you still have at 40. You can still distinguish that Jenna Ortega at 20 years old is still more attractive than 99.999% of 40 year old women you will see. You can see this at 20 years old and 40 years old all the same.

You're kind of a weirdo to associate attraction to adults at the peak of their physical beauty with sexual kinks, power issues, etc. People are physically attracted to what they find pleasing to the eye.

If someone were to pursue relationships with these much younger people, you may have some kind of point as being far past our primes of physical beauty all we really have to offer is money, etc. creating a power dynamic. That's not what you said though. Your post seems to be about your delusion that you suddenly begin finding belly fat, cellulite, skin damage, wrinkles and sagging body parts attractive as you get older and it's somehow weird that men and women don't.

Thank_you_BasedGod t1_iylk4lo wrote

I specifically said 18-19 year olds, it's key because if you were to have a line up of those of that age bracket male or female and asked a fully grown adult to determine if they were in their early 20s or late teens, they would be hard pressed to answer accurately. If you're specifically attracted to those who are 18-19 partly due to knowing their 18-19yro's there's a reason for it.

−1

Thank_you_BasedGod t1_iyljm7y wrote

Did I really get down voted for saying if you're actively attracted to 18-19yros in your 40s there might be a pervasive reason why?

Because nobody would do illegal things online. I can hear it now, him convincing detectives he was simply browsing the totally legitimate 4chan like any other day and collected these age authenticated images.

nishagunazad t1_iygjkgb wrote

I mean it's definitely possible. We hear CSAM and assume it's to do with obvious children, but it also includes 16-17 year olds and in that age range it's not always possible to tell the difference. That, plus the proliferation of self made pornography can make for something of a minefield. I'd bet my left arm that there's an uncomfortable amount of CSAM floating around on reddit or anywhere else that doesn't have a robust age verification process.

This guy is probably a scumbag, but it's also quite possible that he didn't actually know that the persons were underage. Be careful out there.

Bruh in high-school people would literally make accounts about the school and leak peoples nudes on Instagram. It was huuuuge and happened a lot in my city and basically nothing ever happened. Theyd make a page people would dm them nudes of other people and theyd post it, itd get reported, and theyd make a new one but go private. Its insane. I cant imagine how much shit there is out there of 14-17 year olds.
