There is no way that map was released without the government knowing any treasure had already been moved.

There have been a few treasure hunts that have led to a lot of trespassing and property damage. The Beale Cipher is one that comes to mind, and if I'm not mistaken there have been a few missing people searching for the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine.

Cue Indiana Jones theme. That just sounds fun.

In the future we might get a movie, book, or piece of fiction where the treasure turns out fo be a WWII bomb. It's not even a doomsday device, just a bomb that may or may not kill the heroes and villain having their climatic showdown. At least the heroes get to make some friends along the way, amirite?

If they cast Brendan Fraser for the lead character then I'd watch it.

They could make Brendan Fraser the lead in a movie about logistics and supply and we'd still watch it. He's a great actor.
And that's no offense to logistics or supply, either. While those things are incredibly important and they make or break wars, it's just not the sort of action that most people think about when thinking about a war movie.

I agree with both of your points. I think a war movie based on a treasure map featuring Brendan Fraser would be movie gold. Plenty of logistics, and supply, but the treasure must remain hidden until the last few minutes, and it should definitely be that the treasure was inside all of us the whole time.... wait... no... it should be treasure, like, real treasure.

Seriously, these people are trespassing, digging up people's farmland and yards. The worst part is that if there was any truth to the map, its treasure might be long gone. What will be tragic is when someone hits a WW2 mine or unexploded ordinance.
