No country has asked Germany to do this. A journalist asked the question for a headline.

>"There's no question to send weapons to Taiwan. That is not the question. We talked a lot here with people, with the politics, and the question is not 'please Germany send us weapons'," she added.

>"It's not a question of military equipment. I think there are different partners here."

Europe does not usually supply Taiwan with weapons. The USA made up 94% of arms sales to Taiwan from 2000-2010.

Yep. Wonder how much this article is trying to cash in on the general frustration with Germany not sending Ukraine tanks.

Germany will not provide Taiwan with weapons and has not been asked to do so, as the situation is different from Ukraine's, a senior German lawmaker said on Wednesday while on a trip to Taipei.

Wary of angering China and prompting a trade backlash, most countries do not sell arms to Taiwan.

Taiwan has 4x the GDP of Ukraine, extremely favorable geography, and mandatory conscription. They can arm themselves and don’t need handouts.

Germany. The land of cockheads. Always was, always will be. Currently sucking Putin’s cock so they don’t freeze to death.

As Indian external affairs minister Jaishankar puts it "Europe's problem are the world's problems, but world's problem are not Europe's"

Countries around the world see this & act according to their national interests & Europe/west acts all surprised when others refuse to blindly follow their line & act in their own national interest

What a dumb comparison. There is no hot conflict in Taiwan at the moment.

Better to be proactive than reactive. When it becomes a hot conflict it's already too late. So not a dumb comparison.

Europe did not arm Ukraine before the conflict, nor did it sanction Russia proactively. Sanctioning proactively would not even make any sense, why would the would be aggressor choose peace if there already is full sanctions in place for the thing that it is not yet doing?

The comparison does not really hold. Just plain stupid populism. Should Germany really proactively arm the whole world "just in case"?
