If you didn't say the prayer and you are still alive because your daughter said it for you then there are two possibilities
- Someone saying prayer for you works.
- Someone saying prayer besides you passes the curse to them.

It would be hard to find which one is true, but from now on if you both say prayer together then it would work without knowing which one of the possibilities happened.

That’s what I’m planning to do, but can I really ask her to go through her life acting as if she has a curse that may not exist?

At this age she might believe you and say prayer but ones she is old enough she might think it's foolish do this ritual just like your husband :(
