I, too, often wished my family were drunks. They were just sober monsters tho

I felt that line in my damn soul.

“At least I’m not a drunk like my mom!” So you’re just a shit then?

Literally. You don't even have an excuse for being shitty, you're just shitty.

Yes! Exactly!

At least with grandma, she was traumatized by war and coping poorly- not a good situation, but I can understand her behavior a bit. Not making excuses as child abuse is never justified, but I can understand why someone who went through what she did drank.

And I can understand why someone raised by a bitter drunk would grow up to have no idea how to parent/love their own children later in life. It’s a viscous cycle.

Perhaps, but you’d think they’d have a bit of empathy- it sucked when my mom beat me, maybe I shouldn’t do that to my own children.

You have the best point of all. Break the cycle! Why would someone who went through that abuse inflict the same on their child! I get some people get bitter and evil because of it but why doesn’t everyone get like that then? It has a lot to do with who you are as a person deep down no matter what was done to you. I hope you are happier now x

Thank you! I still don’t understand it, but some people are just messed up. I swore I’d never do the same and it’s one of the (many) reasons I don’t want/will never have kids.
