What a twist! Can't wait to read about those three in the school paper, OP! 😁

Are school papers allowed to cover student gossip? My school never had one so I'm unfamiliar.

But would "cheated on bf," "does drugs," or "had plastic surgery" really be newsworthy. Or even allowed.

Not only “not allowed” but “illegal”. You would be libeling someone UNLESS you had proof. The person could claim that pic was taken at a different time (when she wasn’t w/her current bf), no way to prove what the girl was smoking was drugs, you’d have to have someone (a dr, the girl herself, medical records) on the record stating there was plastic surgery, otherwise it’s speculation. Apart from all of that, these things would only be potentially newsworthy if the people in question are public figures.

Everyone wondering whether the school paper would print gossip are assuming OP would be using them as stories in themselves, which would be silly. All OP needs to do is write the actual story about the machine and say it dispensed an envelope, then include the photos. No comment about the content of those photos needed.
