Under the surface of the earth and under the earth itself are two different things. In my opinion anyway. Takes nothing away from the story either way.

How much further under the earth we talking?

Like, mantle?

Mesosphere?

Inner core?

You get much more under that you'll just end up behind the Earth

Under the SURFACE vs "under" the planet itself.

Unless you're a flat earther that doesn't make sense. For an Australian, "under the plane"t is the same as "above the planet" for a European.

How can you be under a ball that's inhabited all around?

Yeah. That's why under was in quotes in my comment. The word you're looking for is IN. In the earth.

The original comment said under. Exactly why I originally commented. Ugh.
