If I’m understanding correctly, the dad heard about the motion picture guy, figured out what happened, and used the same glass panel stuff (like the glass plate photographs) to trap himself and OP in a picture of the river (explaining the glass, like a picture frame cover or picture panel) so that he wouldn’t have to face his court date and potentially lose OP
