Well, they managed to overthrow the Shah. He wasn’t a lightweight at controlling the population.

With “they” you mean the Islamists that became the current regime. “They” are not going to do it again because they’re in power.

they are saying that the Islamist's overthrew the Shah when the Shah was powerful. Now the Islamist's are powerful but the citizens still have the ability to overthrow the government, just like the Shah was overthrown.....

Apparently, from the Iranian comments here, the population no longer has the will or means to overthrow their all powerful government regime. They are doomed forever to just be sheeple and go the way of Russians. Oh well, time to move on. Nothing to see here.

They also had help that they could rely on. They look around and see what happened when the Afghans tried to get rid of the Taliban, what happened when the Syrians tried to get rid of alAssad, what happened when the Kurds tried to get out - they don't trust their support, and they can't do it without support.
