Have you really never heard of the Deluge?

I'm not arguing that we should get "our" stuff back. I don't care. I'm just annoyed at shitty history knowledge.

To be fair, we’ve had a shit tonne of wars in Europe. I probably know a bit about 20 of them or so but I’m not really familiar with that one. I tend to be more familiar with the ones my country has had more of a role in.

It’s probably common knowledge in Poland but if you live in Spain, France or England, you probably have to be a real military history fan to know about it.

I can tell you this. In American public schools we absolutely learned nothing about this, barely anything outside of America. Of what we did learn it was all Ancient, or about the major colonial powers. I know quite a few fully functioning adults who couldn't label all their continents, never mind Sweden or Poland.

As an American, our mid 1700's military history is pretty crowded. No room for some not even regionally impactful war.

This was mid 1600s, and pretty damn regional impactful. Poland-Lithuania was a major power in Europe at the time, and this was the beginning of them losing their power and ceasing to exist over many wars in the next century. We'd know about the Polish Lithuanian commonwealth and how powerful they were if our history left America 1600-1945 for just one of the 12 years.

I’m an American do you really think I learned that? As if Us Americans would lower Ourselves to learning about wars We weren’t involved in and didn’t start. Lol

Someone didn't pay attention in world history.

I did, but it focused on British royalty effing with their german, french, and spanish cousins around the world. didn't hear this about Swedish cousins effing their polish cousins (in the 1600s?). meh...was there a take away that we missed...could it have prevented any of the 'world wars'? so sweden used to be a bad ass, but not so much now? poland used to be a big dog, but not so much now

So world history for you was learning solely about the 1900s world wars and a very, very small amount of European royalty. Got it.

Exactly. If it didn’t have to do with American imperialism then it wasn’t important enough for them to teach Us about in school. Whatever it takes to boost that national pride in one’s own young boon of a country throwing its weight around against the rest of the world and basically sticking Our nose in business that didn’t involve Us but We made it involve Us. America doesn’t get invited to the party? America creates the party
