Serious question: Have you considered emigrating to somewhere in the Modern Developed World instead? That experience would make me look for an upgrade.

Unfortunately once they’re able to label you as a felon, that option is basically no longer there for you.

I'm not sure I can emigrate to Canada and all I have is a misdemeanor for driving way too fast in Virginia.

Felonies are a problem if emigrating to Canada. Misdemeanours are ok.
